An artists impression of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The building will be 26,000 sq m, and will feature interior design by Nathalie Criniere. It’s due for completion in 2013.
The emirate is paying the Agence France-Museum 1 billion euros (ONE BILLION!) over a 30 year period to play host to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and had Nicholas Sarkozy - the French Premiere - present at it’s recent groundbreaking ceremony.
The building is part of the plan to construct a cultural district on from nothing on Saadiyat Island, which will also include a Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, designed by Frank Gehry, a national museum by Foster & Partners and a performing arts centre by Zaha Hadid.
