Alex Roulette’s work is comprised mostly of atmospheric, dramatically lit paintings of young people engaged in self-consciously artistic or awkwardly recreational pursuits, his pieces capturing them off-guard in moments of melancholy. They’re unashamed Americana, and excellent for it.
But it’s this particular drawing I like the most; the two overlapping moments remind me of what I see when my eyes and I are tired and their lazy muscles betray me. Perfect conditions for primary school nostalgia, and remembering the simple pleasure of making a ‘bridge’.
